Finance Factors’ Annual Charity Breakfast Raises $7,305 for Making Ends Meet |
The 15th annual Finance Factors’ Charity Breakfast gave participants the opportunity to open their hearts and fill their stomachs this morning, raising $7,305 to benefit Making Ends Meet. More than 1,200 local-style breakfasts of Kukui Brand Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs and rice were sold for a $5 donation in front of the Finance Factors Center on Bishop Street. For the yearly signature fundraiser, 70 employees from the Finance Factors Family of Companies set up accommodations, cooked breakfast platters, and distributed plates to hundreds of people in the downtown area. "Finance Factors is thrilled to have another successful Charity Breakfast completed on behalf of one of the many great non-profit organizations in our community, Making Ends Meet," said Steven Teruya, president of Finance Factors. "Although the company participates in charitable giving throughout the year, the Charity Breakfast is our signature event, which gives our employees the chance to reach out to the community and encourage others to give." "Finance Factors would not be able to have done this for the last 15 years without the support of the community. We would also like to thank the many people and companies who helped make this year’s breakfast a success, including Akyth, Inc., Kukui Sausage Co., Y. Hata & Company Ltd., Executive Chef Andy Nelson and Executive Sous Chef Michael Arita of the Pacific Beach Hotel, the employees of the Finance Factors Family of Companies, and the many generous vendors, friends and colleagues in our downtown community who have supported us. For more than a decade, each plate is still only $5, allowing the public to enjoy an affordable meal while also helping out a worthy cause," Teruya added. For the past 15 years the Charity Breakfast has raised a total of more than $82,000 for more than a dozen local charities. Each year, Finance Factors invests time and other resources to help raise funds for a wide range of non-profit organizations that are working to improve the quality of life for the people of Hawaii. "Making Ends Meet is honored to be this year's beneficiary of the Finance Factor's Charity Breakfast. As a young organization that was formed in 2008, this opportunity will enable us to establish our identity within the community," said Dr. Sherrie Takushi-Isara, executive director of Making Ends Meet. "Additionally, with the generous contribution provided by Finance Factors, we will be able to continue our mission to assist those who are experiencing financial difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances." Making Ends Meet provides emergency financial assistance to individuals who have experienced a significant setback or trauma associated with illness, crime, unexpected death in the family, loss of income, or domestic violence. The non-profit will provide assistance to cover basic necessities, such as food, clothing, utilities, medication, and transportation. Preference is given to individuals who are employed and/or in school, and those who are not receiving public assistance, but fall below the Hawaii poverty line. The goal of providing this type of service is to assist individuals in maintaining their self-esteem, independence, and sense of hope.
