Finance Factors Family Mourns Loss of Director and Founder's Wife

Patsy Shintani Chun, director on the board of the Finance Factors Family of Companies and wife of the late Mun On Chun, one of the six founding fathers of the companies, died at home on June 18, 2008 at the age of 94 years young.

Born Patsy Shintani on November 8, 1913, Mrs. Chun graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Management and Psychology. A tireless educator, she worked for the Department of Education as an educational specialist with the gifted and handicapped program. She was also involved in Central Union Church and the Mun On Chun Scholarship Program that helps provide an education for underprivileged children.

Finance Enterprises, Ltd. is a holding company and was established in 1976 to coordinate the activities of the companies that were founded in 1952 by six local businessmen: Daniel B.T. Lau, Mun On Chun, Fong Choy, Clifford H.N. Yee, Hiram L. Fong, and Lup Quon Pang. The primary operating companies that make up the Finance Factors Family of Companies are Finance Factors, Ltd., Finance Realty, Ltd., Finance Investment, Ltd., Finance Insurance, Ltd., and Finance Enterprises, Ltd. Mrs. Chun’s son, Patrick, is CEO of Finance Realty and a member of the Board of Directors for Finance Enterprises.

As the widow of the late Mun On Chun, one of the founders of the Finance Factors Family of Companies, Mrs. Chun served on the board of the Finance Factors Family of Companies for 14 years, and passed away while still in service. She assumed the position when her husband passed away in 1995, although she was involved with the companies from their inceptions. She was instrumental in establishing the Finance Factors Foundation, which has made significant contributions to the community. She was a loyal, dedicated and conscientious director of the board, contributing immeasurably to the growth and success of the companies.

Mrs. Chun delighted in getting to know the employees of the Family of Companies. She was truly a “people” person -- personable, fun, down-to-earth, and a joy to be around. She cared deeply about the employees and her community.

Daniel B.T. Lau, Chairman and Secretary for Finance Factors and the only surviving original founder, said “I am saddened by the loss of such a spirited, caring, humble, and charitable individual and friend.”

In addition to son Patrick, Mrs. Chun is survived by survived by daughter Linda (husband Dick Bergman); grandchildren Scott (wife Cherry), Kris (wife Ilse), Kelly (husband Todd Berge) and Stephen (wife Dana); and great grandchildren Ethan, Isabelle, Owen, and Matthew. Mrs. Chun is also survived by sister Tamiyo Iwamura.

Services will be held at Central Union Church on June 24, 2008 (Tuesday) at 4:00 p.m. visitation and 5:00 p.m. service. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made either to Finance Factors Foundation or ASSETS School in memory of Patsy Shintani Chun.
